Although Delaval Lodge No 2568 (Northumberland) had the largest number of founders from any one lodge (10) the new lodge (Liddell) was sponsored by The Lodge of Industry No 48 (Durham) having (8) and a total of 37 founders in all.
As the master designate, RW Bro The Hon Gerald Wellesley Liddell, JGW, Prov SGW was the son of the Fifth Baron Ravensworth, whose estates includes part of Dunston, it is understandable that the new lodge took the family name of Liddell.
The Consecration Ceremony was most impressively performed in the "Industry Hall, Jackson Street, Gateshead" on Saturday 14th September 1912 at 2.30pm precisely by The RW Bro Lord Barnard,PGW, Prov Grand Master, it was announced that; RW Bro The Hon G.W. Liddell JGW, Prov SGW had been installed First Master of the newly constituted lodge and that he had invested W.Bro W.T.Harkness PM of Lodge of Industry No as his IPM and Industry Lodge being the mother lodge.
At the first meeting of the lodge, held on 24th October 1912, in the Lecture Hall, Ravensworth Rd, Dunston-on-Tyne, Mr J.S.Guild and Mr J.N.Pursell were Initiated by the Worshipful Master, who also explained the Working tools and First degree Charge.
At the regular meeting held on 29th December 1913, we find that RW Bro The Hon G.W.Liddell, IPM. Then addressed the brethren upon the happy year of office he had as master, and expressed a desire to commemorate the same by presenting the Lodge with a banner as a joint present from his wife and himself. This to be an appreciation of the good feeling and brotherly love existing. His wife was also desirous of being associated with the gift, and they both wished the Lodge every future success. He then asked the Master to unveil the banner and take charge of the same. (This banner shows the Ravensworth Coat-of-Arms beautifully worked). The mottoes on the banner "Fema Semper Vivit" and "Unis et Idem" mean, "Fame lives for ever" and "One and the same".
The building (Masonic hall) was commenced in 1932, after many years (1919) of negations' with the banks and raising the funds for this building. The PGM was to have presided at the ceremony of laying The Foundation Stone on the 16th July 1932, but, unfortunately, he died on the 15th June and his son, the Seventh Baron Ravensworth, ProvSGW laid the ston
